As per IACSD Standards 2020, everyone involved in treating the adult sedated patient requires ILS training “or equivalent” every twelve months.
This is our UKSedation / Traintosedate face to face “equivalent ILS course” which takes 3.5 hours rather than a whole day out of clinic.
It is designed to “top up” your BLS training to meet IACSD standards on Immediate Life Support training in dental sedation.
Dental teams already do yearly BLS training but don’t cover airway management or complications of sedation.
Many dental sedation trained teams have done a Resus Council Approved ILS course and just require annual half day refreshers.
So our 3 hour course is designed to fill in the gaps and is suitable for dental staff who
- Have annual BLS and need to upgrade to ILS equivalent
- Have already done an adult ILS course or refresher in the last 12 months
Our curriculum covers:
- Adult Airway Management
- Recovery position in the dental chair
- Head Tilt Chin Lift and Jaw Thrust
- Oropharyngeal Airways
- Nasopharyngeal Airways
- Igel insertion with particular relation to cardiac arrest
- Recognition of the partially occluded airway
- Recognition of Over Sedation
- ABCDE assessment of the conscious and sedated patient with Anaphylaxis, Vomiting, Choking
- AED training if required
Our course does not cover Paediatric Life Support.
You have two options depending on your needs:
We can come to your practice and train up to 8 people in a morning or afternoon session. 9-12pm or 2-5pm
Or we host courses ourselves, usually at our centre in Warwick.

Yes absolutely, it’s for all dental team members who look after sedated patients.
Do you do team based scenarios?
